Clean Energy on the Clock: Trump Orders Early End to Wind & Solar Tax Credits!

President Trump signed an executive order (EO) instructing the Treasury Dept. to “strictly enforce the termination of the clean electricity production and investment tax credits” for wind and solar facilities. These are the credits revised or eliminated by the One, Big, Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA). The EO also requires stricter rules concerning foreign-controlled companies involved in renewable energy supply chains. The OBBBA accelerates the phaseouts of Sections 45Y and 48E credits for wind and solar facilities. The credits will be unavailable as of 2028 due to a “placed-in-service” deadline that only applies to those industries. Construction must begin within the next year to be eligible.
