EV Buyers Beware: $7,500 Tax Credit Vanishes After Sept. 30, 2025

If you were planning to take advantage of the $7,500 tax credit for purchasing or leasing a new electric vehicle (EV) or $4,000 for buying a used one, time is running out. The One, Big, Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA) eliminates these clean vehicle credits after Sept. 30, 2025. There are several possible implications, one of which is that buyers will now rush to dealerships to snap up eligible vehicles before the credits expire. EV supply, therefore, could dry up quickly. Also, auto industry analysts expect falling EV market penetration after Sept. 30, as more car buyers choose to purchase less expensive gas-powered vehicles.
